Four-star Illinois lineman commits to Michigan State

The annual spring season of commitments has hit full bloom for Michigan State as the Spartans received another verbal pledge on Thursday in the wake of successful spring visits.

Park Ridge, (Ill.) offensive guard Kevin Jarvis of Maine South High School became the third commitment for the class of 2017 when he selected Michigan State earlier this afternoon. All three Spartan commitments have made their choice since March 16.

Jarvis, a four-star recruit, is the highly-acclaimed commitment of the young recruiting season. At 6-5, 315, Jarvis is ranked No. 232 in the country by Rivals.com, No. 5 in Illinois and No. 9 at offensive guard.

"I had a great visit to Michigan State on Tuesday and ever since I came back home I couldn't stop thinking about them," Jarvis told Tim O’Halloran of EdgyTim.com/Rivals.com. "I sat down and talked it over with my dad and then Coach Inserra that I was ready to commit. They totally agreed with my my reasons to commit so afterwards I called up the MSU coaches and gave them my verbal commitment."

He had offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee and others.

Michigan State went from being a strong contender to Jarvis’ leader after a visit on Tuesday which Jarvis described as “fantastic” with this Tweet:

One day prior to the visit, Jarvis said he wanted to make a decision by the end of the summer, but seemed to have no idea Michigan State was going to strike him like it did.

On Monday, Jarvis told Rivals.com’s Josh Helmholdt, “I’m still in that stage where I am going to keep (evaluating) schools. I am just trying to figure out what schools I am going to keep in a top ten when I make that sometime soon. I am going to try to get it done this summer, but if I can’t then I am just going to wait.”

He said Arkansas, Michigan State, Michigan and Florida are schools he planned “to look into pretty heavily.”

Jarvis planned to visit Florida and Michigan in the coming weeks, but has apparently canceled those plans.
