Iowa QB commits to MSU

Michigan State’s recent recruiting surge gained momentum on Sunday when quarterback Rocky Lombardi of West Des Moines, Iowa committed to the Spartans.

Lombardi is the third Spartan commitment of the week, with four-star offensive lineman Kevin Jarvis and four-star wide receiver Hunter Rison having committed to the Spartans on Thursday and Friday.

Lombardi is a 3-star recruit (5.6 Rivals rating), and is ranked the No. 3 play in Iowa and the No. 20 pro style QB in the nation.

Lombardi announced his commitment via Twitter at 3:49 p.m. on Sunday:

He turned down in-state offers from Iowa and Iowa State in order to commit to MSU. Yale offered him on Thursday.

Lombardi, 6-3, 220, has a 3.5 grade point average and finished third in the state in wrestling this season.

As a junior at West Des Moines Valley High School, he threw for 21 touchdowns and 2,200 yards, along with five interceptions.

He camped at Michigan State last summer. He took an unofficial visit to Michigan State for the Oregon game last September, and visited MSU again on Friday.

On Thursday, SpartanMag.com's Matt Dorsey profiled Lombardi's film in advance of Lombardi's visit.
